Legacy Through Leadership.
Community Through Coaching.
I'm Coach Winn. I've been coaching since 1982. In 44 years, I've used the power of sports to shape lives, build communities, and create opportunity โ on the court, in the classroom, and in the world.
"Positive coaching plants the seeds for everything else โ confidence, character, leadership."
I have spent most of my life in education and coaching, and the greatest advantage I have ever had is hands-on experience. Real people. Real kids. Real families. Real situations.
I once read something from a doctor that stuck with me. He said parents often see the title before the name, and that title creates instant credibility. I understand that. Credentials matter. Education matters. Expertise matters.
But there is another kind of credibility too โ the kind that comes from living it.
I want to speak to real parents about real situations they face with their children every day. That is where trust is built. That is where honest conversation begins. And that is where we can find the middle ground that helps relationships grow stronger and helps us better serve our kids.
I respect doctors, lawyers, nurses, police officers, teachers โ everybody. We all have something to offer. But one thing so many of us share is that we are connected to children, whether as parents, mentors, coaches, or caregivers.
My work has always been about taking those real-life interactions and bringing them back to the family, helping adults better understand kids and better serve them through youth sports.
Because the truth is simple: I cannot really teach you how to ride a bike if I have never ridden one myself.
So let's ride.
โ Coach Fentriss Winn, Founder ยท Youth Sports Toolkit
The Story Behind the Toolkit
I started as a volunteer basketball coach with Parks and Recreation, driven by one belief: when kids get the right coaching, they grow into confident, capable leaders. That belief still drives everything I do โ whether I'm leading a team, building businesses, mentoring future coaches, or helping communities build systems that work for young people.
My background as a union painter and in the construction trades taught me the same lessons I apply to sports โ discipline, preparation, and the value of hard work. The tool metaphors throughout this toolkit come from that real-world experience: understanding that the right tool in the right hands at the right time can build something beautiful that lasts forever.
Since 1982, I've traveled across the country with one crucial message: parents are the most important resource for children in youth sports. Whether it's a traditional nuclear family, single parents, or extended family members stepping in, every child needs a supportive parental figure. This truth has never been more critical than in today's digital age.
The Youth Sports Toolkit was born from seeing the same gaps over and over again โ in parks & rec departments, school districts, municipal programs, and community leagues. Great intentions. Undertrained staff. No shared framework. No common language. The Toolkit fixes that.
Today, the platform serves coaches, parents, administrators, and athletes through online courses, live virtual seminars, in-person events, and consulting engagements. The mission is the same as it was when I first picked up a whistle: build something beautiful that lasts forever.
