Legacy Through Leadership
I'm Coach Winn. Since 1982, I've used the power of sports to shape lives, build communities, and create opportunity β on the court, in the classroom, and in the world.
I started as a volunteer basketball coach with Parks and Rec, driven by one belief: when kids get the right coaching, they grow into confident, capable leaders. That belief still drives everything I do β whether I'm leading a team, building businesses, mentoring future coaches, or helping communities build systems that work for young people.

"The Compass chapter helped me have the most important conversation I've ever had with my daughter about why she plays soccer. She's more motivated than ever."
"We purchased the municipal license for our entire staff of 40. The Framework chapter gave us the structure we needed to scale our program from 200 to 500 kids."

A Love Note to Parents
You are your child's
first coach.
To every parent who has ever sat in the standsβ¦ driven to practice after a long day of workβ¦ worried quietly, sacrificed privately, and loved loudly β this is for you.
I have coached for over five decades. I've seen talent. I've seen championships. I've seen heartbreak. But through it all, one thing has always remained true:
"The most powerful influence in a child's life is not a coach. It's not social media. It's not a trainer. It's you."
Your child already wants to succeed. They already feel pressure. They already care more than they show. What they need most is not more intensity β they need your stability.
Youth sports will end one day. The relationship will not.

I have spent most of my life in education and coaching, and the greatest advantage I have ever had is hands-on experience. Real people. Real kids. Real families. Real situations.
I once read something from a doctor that stuck with me. He said parents often see the title before the name, and that title creates instant credibility. I understand that. Credentials matter. Education matters. Expertise matters.
But there is another kind of credibility too β the kind that comes from living it.
I want to speak to real parents about real situations they face with their children every day. That is where trust is built. That is where honest conversation begins. And that is where we can find the middle ground that helps relationships grow stronger and helps us better serve our kids.
I respect doctors, lawyers, nurses, police officers, teachers β everybody. We all have something to offer. But one thing so many of us share is that we are connected to children, whether as parents, mentors, coaches, or caregivers.
My work has always been about taking those real-life interactions and bringing them back to the family, helping adults better understand kids and better serve them through youth sports.
Because the truth is simple: I cannot really teach you how to ride a bike if I have never ridden one myself.
So let's ride.

What the Field Told Us
I don't do questionnaires. I show up. I meet people. I listen firsthand to the pain points from coaches, parents, kids, and organizations β and I see the situations for myself. Over 10 years, I personally reached out to municipal leagues, school districts, AAU programs, high school associations, and youth sports organizations across the country. I shared scenarios, asked hard questions, and guaranteed that what they shared would stay anonymous. What came back was honest, raw, and real. That's what this platform is built on.
Social Media & Parenting
Parent, Municipal Youth League
"I don't know where guidance ends and control begins. My kid lives on that phone and I feel like I'm losing them to it."
Parent-Coach Communication
Parent, High School Athletic Association
"I want to advocate for my child, but I'm terrified that if I say something, the coach will take it out on them during games."
Encouragement Without Pressure
Parent, AAU Basketball Program
"How do I push my kid to work hard and be accountable without becoming the parent they dread seeing in the stands?"
Community vs. Platform
Director, City Recreation Department
"We provide a program, but we don't have a community. Parents drop kids off and leave. We're just a venue."
Volunteer Recognition
Administrator, Youth Soccer League
"Our volunteers burn out because nobody sees them. We need a culture where kids and parents know their names and say thank you."
Safety & Prevention Gaps
Athletic Director, High School Association
"We had no policy. A situation happened and we realized we'd never talked to our coaches or parents about any of this."
From Coach Winn
"People send out questionnaires to get data. But is that data really useful? Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn't. I need to send, meet, talk to, and view the information β or the situations. We see firsthand. We listen firsthand to the pain points from all stakeholders. When you do this, you can make real decisions with real impact. That's what this toolkit is."
